VCam for Mac: Latest Fixes and Improvements in v2.0.14

We’ve just released the latest beta version of VCam for Mac, 2.0.14, which was initially launched just a few weeks ago. Our team has been working hard to address a number of key issues and performance improvements, which we’re excited to share with you today!

Here’s all that’s new:

  • No more white backgrounds: In some rare instances, a white background would show instead of your selected one. Now, your chosen background looks the way it should!

  • Improved webcam launch image: We’ve now made the camera launch image more descriptive, for better usability. PS: you’ll soon be able to customize this image, or just disable it altogether if you prefer.

  • Improved camera handling: VCam now automatically switches to another available webcam if you remove or lose connection to your current active one.

  • FPS is a WIP: We’ve temporarily removed the maximum FPS setting to address a performance issue. At this time your webcam will output at 30 FPS. We're on it!

  • Various UI fixes: We’ve ironed out various UI wrinkles, including incorrect text descriptions, icon mishaps, and missing actions.

  • Consistent logo placement: Your logo will now align perfectly across the app and the Dashboard for a seamless look.

Known issues:

  • White screen of death: Users on Intel based systems may still experience a “white screen of death” when using VCam. The application will turn white, and the camera output will show the VCam launch screen. We are actively investigating this issue.

  • Device switching: Your active camera device may randomly switch to another during usage. Current reason unknown, but under active investigation.

  • Performance issues: We are tracking some performance issues when VCam is used in Google Chrome. Updates to follow on this.

  • Missing camera after update: After installing VCam or after an update, you will need to run VCam before you launch the application you wish to use VCam in. Due to various Mac security restrictions, VCam can only complete installation of the virtual camera driver after you have launched VCam. We are actively exploring ways to improve this user experience.

There’s still more to come over the coming weeks as we continue to hammer away at the various teething issues, and we’ll soon be extending support to Windows users in the new year. As always, if you have any issues or feedback, please don’t hesitate to join the Slack community or reach out to support. We’d love to hear your thoughts!
